I received my labor doula certification through CAPPA, the international association for childbirth and postpartum professionals. I have taken further labor doula education classes through Cornerstone Doula Trainings, including specialized courses on Homebirth for Doulas, Massage for Doulas, and Optimal Fetal Positioning During Pregnancy. I also did my postpartum doula training through Cornerstone Doula Trainings.
I was born the 11th of 12 children, and around my house growing up babies and birth were just another part of life. I have spent countless weekends and summers during my teenage & adult years caring for sisters and their new babies. I now have 27 nieces and nephews.
In December of 2011, I gave birth to my son Callum, and in January of 2015 we welcomed my daughter Nora. Experiencing pregnancy, labor, birth, and parenthood first hand was an enlightening experience after working as a doula. My personal experience left me with a new understanding and appreciation for the miraculous work our bodies undertake in growing and birthing a baby. I gained a great deal of practical knowledge about the work that can be done in pregnancy to put yourself in the best position possible to have the birth you desire. I also experienced myself the positive power of being surrounded by a trusted, kind, knowledgeable support system. We CAN do this work, and – as with many of the most challenging things in life – coming out the other side empowered and joyful.
